About the Authors
Karen Conner is a National Board Certified high school English teacher in Cabarrus County Schools. Karen has completed 28 years of teaching. She earned her bachelor's degree in English from Bluefield College, a Master's in Literacy from UNC Charlotte, and is pursuing an Ed. D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Gardner-Webb University. Karen is married and has two sons. She is passionate about education and reading. When not teaching or reading, Karen can be found in her garden, kayaking with her husband, or hanging out with the boys and her two dogs and two cats.

Ashton Coppley was born and raised in Monroe, NC. She earned her BA in Elementary Education from UNC-Charlotte, her MA in Elementary Education from Wingate University, and is currently pursuing her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Gardner Webb University. She has taught in Union County Public Schools since 2008 and is going into her 10th year of teaching. Mrs. Coppley has split her time between Title One and non-Title One elementary schools and is excited to expand her experience to the middle school level. Through her teaching career she has worked primarily with upper elementary grades, and has also been a reading Interventionist, Curriculum Support, and Testing Coordinator. Mrs. Coppley loves to work with students of all capabilities and she has spent several years working with inclusion and students that are academically gifted.
Mrs. Coppley lives in Monroe with her husband, Andrew, and loves spending time with her family and friends, getting ready for the arrival of her twins, and traveling. |
Betsy Furr, MAT, NBCT. Betsy is a doctoral candidate at Gardner-Webb University. She has worked in the North Carolina public school system for 22 years. She lives with her husband and two children in Watauga County. In her spare time she enjoys outdoor walking and running and reading a good book.

Description of the PLM
Effective questioning is essential for learning. This module will explore questioning for learning and critical thinking. This module was designed for use by teachers of all grade levels. It is intended for the benefit of teachers in designing their instruction and for the benefit of the students they teach. Participants in this PLM will consider the importance of which questions are asked, who gets to ask them, and what role they play in student achievement.
